Bring infrastructure consumption from multiple sources into one controlled platform.
Enterprise Infrastructure Consumption Intelligence & Automated Billing Platform
Consume IQ is an enterprise consumption intelligence platform designed to monitor IT infrastructure utilization across ONGC's Data Centre (DC) and Disaster Recovery (DR) environments. The platform collects infrastructure data through APIs, processes device-level consumption using business rules, consolidates consumption data, integrates committed capacity and pricing masters, and generates automated billing summaries and operational analytics.

Enterprise Solution
Enterprise Infrastructure Consumption Intelligence & Automated Billing Platform
ONGC required a centralized solution to monitor infrastructure consumption across distributed Data Centre and Disaster Recovery environments.
Consumption data originated from multiple infrastructure sources and required validation, device-level processing, capacity reconciliation and pricing integration before it could be used for billing.
The solution also needed controlled synchronization between DC and DR while keeping database communication within the organization's internal infrastructure.
Bring infrastructure consumption from multiple sources into one controlled platform.
Apply consistent validation and device-level business rules to incoming data.
Track installed, requested, committed and utilized infrastructure capacity.
Convert validated consumption into billing-ready information using master data.
Maintain controlled data synchronization between Data Centre and Disaster Recovery environments.
Consume IQ establishes a structured processing pipeline that transforms raw infrastructure consumption into validated, consolidated and billing-ready business information.
Infrastructure consumption data collected through APIs.
Incoming API data inserted into raw consumption tables.
Validation and business logic applied according to device and consumption category.
Validated and processed records moved into the staging layer.
Consumption across devices consolidated into a standardized summary.
Committed capacity and pricing masters applied to consumption data.
Final billing calculations and business-ready summaries generated.

Consume IQ — Product, Workflow & DC/DR Overview
Monitor infrastructure utilization across servers, storage and network components.
Apply category-specific business rules and validation before consumption is consolidated.
Compare actual utilization with installed, requested and committed capacity.
Integrate consumption with pricing and committed capacity masters to generate billing summaries.
Provide dashboards and reports for consumption, utilization and cost visibility.
Synchronize critical application data between DC and DR using the internal enterprise network.
The platform provides operational visibility across infrastructure utilization and translates consumption data into actionable cost and billing information.
A centralized view of infrastructure consumption across servers, storage and network components.
Track actual utilization against installed, requested and committed infrastructure capacity.
Transform raw infrastructure measurements into standardized consumption information.
Connect validated consumption with pricing and committed capacity information.
Provide business and operational teams with consolidated information for monitoring and decision-making.
Maintain traceable movement from raw data through validation, staging and summary layers.
Consume IQ required controlled synchronization between the Data Centre and Disaster Recovery environments.
Database synchronization was performed using internal replication IPs within the organization's local infrastructure, keeping the communication path within the controlled enterprise network.
Database communication was not directly exposed to the public internet.

A key part of the solution was translating technical infrastructure measurements into standardized business information that could support reporting and billing.
Collect infrastructure consumption through source APIs.
Insert incoming information into controlled raw data tables.
Validate records and apply device-specific business rules.
Move processed information into the staging layer.
Consolidate all device consumption into a standardized summary.
Reconcile consumption against committed capacity.
Apply applicable pricing master information.
Generate billing-ready summaries and operational reports.
BA Perspective
The most important part of Consume IQ wasn't simply building another monitoring dashboard. The challenge was translating infrastructure metrics into business-ready information.
I worked across the boundary between infrastructure teams, business stakeholders and application teams to understand how raw consumption should be interpreted, validated, consolidated and ultimately converted into billing information.
A standardized consumption model was established so data from different infrastructure sources could be brought into a consistent business view.
Raw infrastructure measurements were not directly treated as billable data. Validation and device-level processing occurred before consolidation.
Pricing and committed capacity were maintained as controlled master data, allowing billing calculations to remain configurable and traceable.
Database synchronization was designed around the organization's internal network architecture, avoiding direct exposure of database communication to the public internet.
Infrastructure data quality directly affects billing, reporting and business decisions. Validation therefore needs to be treated as part of the business process, not only as a technical activity.
Device-level calculations reinforced the importance of clearly documenting business rules so requirements, implementation and validation remain aligned.
Working across DC and DR environments demonstrated how infrastructure architecture, synchronization and security constraints directly influence application requirements.
Effective automation begins by understanding the existing process, identifying decision points and standardizing business rules before automating them.
Great digital transformation begins with understanding the problem — and succeeds when people, process and technology move together.
